New Application Note Provides Applications and Examples for the Practical Use of DC Electronic Loads

Yorba Linda, CA  April, 2009 - Many of today’s electronic applications are concerned with the efficient use of energy. For this reason, it is important to have a test instrument such as a DC Electronic Load that can accurately characterize power sources used to provide electricity for devices such as electrical vehicles, computer power supplies, 3G cellular phones, and even consumer standard household batteries.

B&K Precision’s newly-released application note “DC Electronic Load Applications and Examples” provides a general introduction to a DC load’s usage.  Some standard performance tests for power supplies are described in detail. Additional information on other practical DC load applications and setup descriptions are provided. Also included are several methods for the performance verification of a DC load itself.

All applications and software examples in this application note use the B&K DC load models 8500 and 8510 for illustration; however the applications can be simulated in the same fashion with other brands of DC loads with the exception of all the software examples.  The software is specific to B&K series DC loads, but the ideas can be used with other DC load brands.

Availability
B&K Precision’s DC Electronic Load application note can be downloaded from the company’s web site www.bkprecision.com, by entering 8500 in the search box, then clicking on Documentation. The 17-page document is available at no cost.

B&K Precision’s Model 2652 Handheld 3.3 GHz Spectrum Analyzer Wins Product of the Year Award from EN-Genius Network

Yorba Linda, CA February, 2009 - B&K Precision is proud to announce that the model 2652 Handheld 3.3 GHz Spectrum Analyzer with Tracking Generator was awarded 2008 “Product of the year” from the EN-genius network (www.en-genius.net).  The popular engineering site recognized the 2652 for “Best Price versus Performance Factor in Handheld Instrumentation”.

The 2652 is a compact, cost-effective, handheld, PC-compatible 3.3 GHz Spectrum Analyzer with a tracking generator added, that delivers the performance and features of a full-size bench top spectrum analyzer.  The 2652 is part of a family of three handheld spectrum analyzers: Model 2650 is identical to the 2652 but without a tracking generator and model 2658 covers a frequency range of 50 kHz - 8.5 GHz.

In the review, the editorial team at EN-Genius stated that compared to other competitive offerings, “B&K Precision's instrument may fill the bill in a cost effective manner. Indeed, that's historically been the case with B&K gear.”

“Both the 3.3-GHz handheld and the 8.5-GHz counterpart's data sheets reflect good specs. As such, if treated with care and respect, you should be able to effectively characterize many 2-port RF devices using these menu-driven instruments. Either the B&K Model 2652 or the Model 2658 should be just about all that's needed to cover Bluetooth, W-CDMA, CDMA, PDC, PHS, GSM, and wireless LAN frequencies, making reasonably accurate and repeatable measurements.”

The product of the year awards are selected by the editors of EN-Genius, based on the product’s “strong technical merit, design innovation and marketability”.
